Located on a prominent corner block in Holland Park, the Geelong Street Landscaping project faced a unique challenge: transforming a bare outdoor space left untouched after a renovation. Initially, the area had difficult retaining walls and terraces. Meanwhile, the client wanted a usable and welcoming outdoor haven. Therefore, without a clear plan, our team eagerly took on the opportunity to transform this blank canvas into a multi-level retreat. By carefully planning each step, we were able to create a space that is both practical and beautiful. Ultimately, this approach allowed us to maximize the property’s potential. In conclusion, the thoughtful design and strategic execution resulted in a stunning transformation.
Using the property’s existing layout, we started the Geelong Street Landscaping project by creating new areas and refreshing the outdoor space. First, we wanted to make a classic outdoor oasis that feels open and welcoming. Even with the limitations of the corner block, we aimed to design a spacious and inviting area. By planning each detail carefully, we made sure the space would be both practical and beautiful. In the end, this approach helped us make the most of the property.
Key Aspects
1. Retaining: Addressing challenging retaining areas to create functional and visually appealing terraces.
2. Fencing: Utilizing low country-style timber fencing painted in crisp white to add charm and delineate different sections of the outdoor space.
3. Stairs: Incorporating carefully designed staircases to facilitate movement between terraces.
4. Brickwork: Implementing brickwork for structural integrity and aesthetic appeal.
5. Irrigation: Installing irrigation systems to ensure the health and vitality of the newly established gardens.
6. Drainage: Addressing drainage issues to prevent water accumulation and erosion.
7. Gardens: Curating lush gardens to soften the landscape and add natural beauty.
8. Arbor: Creating an entry arbor adorned with the client’s favorite colored pink roses, adding a touch of elegance and personalization.
9. Espalier: Incorporating espalier techniques to train plants along walls and fences, maximizing space and adding visual interest.
First, by using strategic hedging and planting, we hid retaining walls and created three levels of terraces, adding depth to the outdoor space. Additionally, the mix of low country-style fencing, an entry arbor, and carefully chosen gardens transformed the once empty area into a charming retreat. As a result, these elements worked together to enhance the overall feel of the property. Moreover, each addition contributed to creating a more inviting and aesthetically pleasing environment. Ultimately, this cohesive design turned the outdoor space into a delightful escape.
